While the majority of purchases still take place in physical stores, in-store advertising accounts for a very small portion of retailers' advertising revenue. According to a report by MarketScale, which relies on an assessment by Omdia, only about 5% of retail media advertising revenue comes from inside physical stores. At the same time, in the second quarter of 2026, only 17.1% of retail sales in the United States were conducted via the internet. These two numbers raise an important question: if most people buy in stores, why does in-store advertising still make up such a small fraction of ad revenue? For example, a customer goes to a supermarket to buy shampoo. In front of the shelf, they see several brands and decide right there which one to buy. If they see a relevant ad in that exact spot, it is likely to influence their choice. Therefore, physical stores can be a crucial opportunity for marketing professionals, because advertising in that space reaches the customer when they are close to the purchasing decision. However, there is a significant hurdle: how do we know that in-store advertising actually led to an increase in sales? So the lesson of this news for marketing professionals is: «Advertising shouldn't just be where people are looking; it must also be present where people make their purchasing decisions.»

For nearly two decades, Google Search has been one of the places where advertisers easily allocated their budgets. The reason was simple: when someone searches Google for a product or service, they often already have a specific intent. However, artificial intelligence is about to change this rule. Through AI overviews and AI modes, Google can answer a portion of the user's questions directly. This means the user does not always need to click on a link and visit a website like before. In a review with 18 media buyers, it was discovered that advertisers are now scrutinizing their Google Search budgets much more closely, asking: How many customers and how much revenue does the money we spend here actually generate for us? Some of these experts say that roughly 10% to 30% of the Google Search budget is now being questioned or could be shifted to other channels. A portion of that money goes to platforms like Meta and TikTok, so that awareness and desire for the product are generated before the customer even goes to Google to search. There is a crucial distinction here: Brand marketing creates demand, while search marketing captures that created demand. For example, if I type «best running shoes» into Google, I have an intent, and Google can convert that intent into a click and a purchase. But the question is: Who made me want those shoes in the first place? I might have seen a video on TikTok, an influential figure might have talked about it, or a brand campaign might have encouraged me. Therefore, the important lesson of this news is: Marketing must not simply wait at the end of the customer journey until the customer searches; rather, it must create the reason for the search at the very beginning of the journey. Or in one short sentence: «The best marketing doesn't just capture ready-made demand; it creates the demand itself.»

Creators shared their family experiences with the movie via short videos, stories, and posts, and according to Talentrack's data, the campaign garnered over 3.5 million organic (unpaid) views on Instagram. However, we must be precise here: this number was reported by Talentrack itself, which was a participant in the campaign; therefore, it is not an independent measurement. Furthermore, 3.5 million views alone do not prove that the campaign actually increased ticket sales. But from a marketing strategy perspective, the concept is crucial. This movie isn't just a children's film; it is an intellectual property that a generation grew up with. Therefore, nostalgia can act as a bridge between two generations: nostalgia for the parents, then the child, followed by a shared cinema experience. In other words, instead of simply saying: «We have a new movie, come see it.» You can say: «The story you grew up with, now continue it with your child.» This establishes an important lesson in cinema marketing: an old intellectual property doesn't stay alive purely through nostalgia; you must turn that nostalgia into a bridge to create a new generation of viewers.
