Usage Alone Isn't Enough; Why Can Only 15% of Marketers Prove the ROI of AI?
«The marketing challenge is no longer whether or not to use Artificial Intelligence, but rather: How do we prove that our use of AI has created real value for our business?»
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer just a futuristic technology for marketers; it has become an inseparable part of their daily workflow. According to Nielsen’s Annual Marketing Report for 2026, 98% of marketers are actively using AI. Its applications range from data analysis and performance measurement to creative production, media planning, and predictive forecasting.
However, alongside this sky-high adoption rate, there is another metric that makes the story much more intriguing: Only 15% of marketers can actually tie the costs of their AI-driven discovery and implementation to a measurable Return on Investment (ROI).
Nielsen’s data reveals that nearly 68% of marketers use AI for measurement and analytics, over three-fifths use it for creative production and media optimization, and 57% use it for predictive forecasting. This signifies that AI is rapidly infiltrating the entire marketing value chain.
What is the critical lesson for marketers? The lesson is clear: Simply using Artificial Intelligence is no longer a "Competitive Advantage" on its own.
When almost everyone (98%) is using AI, the true differentiator between brands lies in who can use this technology better, smarter, and with more measurable results.
In the first phase, everyone’s primary concern was: «How do we use AI?» Now, we are entering the next, more crucial phase, where the central question is: «How do we prove that AI actually creates value and drives profit?»
