A major change in Google Ads; starting September 1st, AI Max will manage campaigns automatically.
Google has announced that starting September 1, 2026, it will begin automatically upgrading certain Google Search Ads campaigns to the AI Max system. This change will automatically transition some existing campaigns to AI Max without the need to create a new campaign. The goal of this step is to use artificial intelligence to improve ad performance and increase campaign effectiveness.
AI Max can automatically discover new search keywords, dynamically change ad headlines and text based on user intent, and select the best target audience. According to Google, by combining website data, ad content, and user behavior, this system can increase impression share, click-through rates, and reach to new customers.
However, this change has not pleased all marketers. Some experts believe AI Max will deliver better results and a higher return on investment (ROI) due to its extensive data analysis. Conversely, others are concerned that AI's role will reduce manual control over keyword selection, ad writing, and campaign management, which could create challenges for brands and marketing agencies with precise strategies.
Google states that users will still be able to set some settings and limits, but most critical decisions will be made by AI. Analysts believe this move signals that the future of Google Ads is heading toward greater automation and AI-driven decision-making, forcing marketers to adapt their strategies to this new shift.
