Rojava International Film Festival Opens 2026 Submissions to Filmmakers Worldwide

The sixth Rojava International Film Festival is preparing for its 2026 edition, with filmmakers from Kurdistan and around the world able to submit work for consideration.

ANHA previously confirmed that organizers were preparing the sixth edition and intended to open participation internationally.

The festival’s current FilmFreeway listing confirms that the 2026 event will take place November 13–20, 2026, with the regular deadline having passed on July 31 and further submission periods continuing through September. The extended deadline is currently listed as September 20, 2026.

Categories include feature films, international and Kurdish short films, documentaries and screenplays, alongside awards focused on cinema, human rights and social themes.

Why it matters

For Kurdish filmmakers in Kurdistan and across the diaspora, the festival provides another route to place Kurdish cinema within an international festival environment while connecting local stories with filmmakers and audiences from other regions.
