From SEO to GEO; Why is Daily Mail Launching a New Marketing Service?

«Marketing used to be a race for the top spot on Google. Now, brands want Artificial Intelligence to mention and recommend them!» For years, one of the ultimate goals of digital marketing was ensuring your brand appeared at the top of Google search results. Today, consumer search behavior is undergoing a massive shift. Customers can now directly ask ChatGPT, Gemini, or other AI models: "What is the best product for me?" The strategic question is no longer just where your brand ranks on Google. The new question is: Does the AI know your brand, mention it, and recommend it to the consumer? Turning GEO into a New Business The UK-based Daily Mail is actively turning this shift into a new business model. The company is currently running 12 to 15 Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) tests across the US, UK, and Australia. By early 2027, it plans to launch "AI Visibility" as an official, formal service for brands. Their methodology is highly strategic: First, Daily Mail identifies the exact prompts consumers use when looking for a product or service. Over time, they monitor these prompts to see which sources the AI relies on and which brands it naturally mentions. If an opportunity exists, they create highly specific content to increase the brand's chances of appearing. In one early test for a lesser-known financial services brand, the brand's visibility in AI responses jumped from roughly 50% to 75%. The Big Problem with GEO The biggest hurdle right now is attribution: How do you prove that AI Visibility actually converts into sales? A customer might see your brand mentioned in ChatGPT but might not directly click a provided link. Instead, they might search for it on Google hours later or type the URL directly. Therefore, tying AI visibility directly to revenue and conversion remains one of GEO's greatest challenges. What is the Lesson for Marketers? This news isn't just about the Daily Mail; it signals a seismic shift in Search Marketing. Previously, the primary concern was: "How do I get my brand on the first page of Google?" Now, a new question has emerged: "When AI answers a customer's question, how does my brand become part of that answer?" In the future of marketing, Search Ranking won't be the only metric that matters; AI Visibility will become a fierce new competitive arena for brands. However, it is crucial to understand that GEO is still in its infancy. No brand can fully control Large Language Models (LLMs) or guarantee a mention in every response. Today, GEO is a strategy for increasing the probability of visibility, rather than a guaranteed promise of placement.

Distributors across the UK and Ireland have consolidated theatrical rollouts for the final stretch of 2026, setting up a tightly contested year-end box office for both studio and independent labels. End of an Era; Why Did McDonald’s End Its 32-Year World Cup Sponsorship?

«After 32 years of a historic partnership, McDonald’s has decided to end its sponsorship of the FIFA World Cup; a decision that likely signals a much larger shift in the marketing strategies of global brands.» The fascinating point is that during the 2026 World Cup, McDonald’s executed the largest World Cup campaign in its history, spanning over 110 countries. However, Ian Borden, the company’s Chief Financial Officer, stated that while the campaign generated good energy and supported the business, the final results fell short of the company’s expectations. This raises a highly strategic question for the future of Sports Marketing: Do massive, exorbitant sponsorships still hold the same value for brands as they once did? The 2026 World Cup alone attracted over $10 billion in global advertising spend, alongside $2.8 billion that FIFA secured from 20 official sponsors. In this incredibly crowded environment, brands were competing against thousands of other messages to capture the exact same attention. Now, McDonald’s is shifting its marketing model to focus more heavily on its own platforms and Intellectual Property—meaning investing in assets it completely owns and controls. What is the lesson for marketers? The lesson is crystal clear: The biggest Event does not always guarantee the biggest Return. In the era of the Creator Economy, Social Media, and Performance Marketing, the primary question for brands is no longer simply, "How many millions of people will see our ad?" Instead, the most crucial question has become: "What real, measurable value does that attention create for our brand and our business?"
